If there’s one thing that I will forever appreciate about the teen wolf fandom, it’s that we refuse to accept that any deaths are canon, but not in the way that the movie did with Allison. We all live in the collective delusion that Erica, Boyd, Aiden, Allison, Lori, Brett, and Derek are all still alive and kicking (if I forgot your fave, I’m SORRY, there’s literally just so many big deaths omg), preferably as part of the McCall pack or at least as pack allies. This also applies to characters who dipped and weren’t part of the main cast anymore like Jackson, Cora, Isaac, Ethan, Danny, KIRA, and Hayden. Like we as a fandom literally don’t care about who is canonically in Beacon Hills, we’re just going to include everyone at the weekly pack meetings and movie nights. Genuinely one of my favorite things, and I hope it never ends because I NEED my lil Berica moments, Danny investigating the big bad with Stiles and Lydia, and Jackson pissing Cora off

the pack plus theo and quinn and jiang and tierney are about to go outside. scott asks lydia if shes ready, she nods. scott turns around and malia flashes her fangs, liam flicks out his claws and then everyone turns to theo whos like 😑 and puts his claws up petty asf . but then stilinski stops them and says "nobodys going anywhere" and lydia is like "i can get through them" and he ssays "we're not gonna fire the first shot. now get back from the door. all of you." and tells parrish to get jiang and tierney back to their cell. scott asked stilinski what happened with monroe. "she gave us til midnight" she wants them, dead or alive, she wants them brought to her band of rebels. anyway everyone helps barricate the doors . monroe is also jamming cell phones and the radio . and its clear that the person who was recruits by monroe is in the station bc ... who else would ahve access to something that can jam a law enforcement transmitter. anyway then the power goes out and someone asks "how easy is it to cut off the power to a police station?" and one of the deputies says "too easy" and shoves nolan into the center of the room. and liam immediately says "Throw him out." and nolan is like "no-no you cant . okay please dont. she'll know i screwed up." and liam says "hes with them." and scott gives him a warning little "Liam.." then liam says "hes a liar and hes sick in the head." and scott is so fucking concerned he doesnt ask right awsy but he looks at liam and nolan ans hes like . what the hell is making him so angry? anyway then sheriff throws nolan in the lock up. turns out nolan and jiang knew each other. idrc ab that. i feel bad for nolan to an extent but like bro. you are highly susceptible to peer pressure and you have anxiety in your eyes. go to therapy and dont beat up your classmates i feel as if that is simple. anyway. for some reasom it cuts to theo dragging liam into the bathroom....? i never understood the point of this scene. have they been talking before this? did theo notice his mood change when nolan came around? things we'll never know. anyway convo goes like 

theo: monroe's not gonna stop. nothing we say is gonna make them get in their cars and drive away. those two losers killed hunters. 

liam: who killed their pack

theo: so what? i mean, monroe's gonna tear through anything standing between her and them. that means you, lydia, malia, and scott. You gonna watch your friends die? 

liam: are you gonna watch hunters murder them? jiang and tierney werent the only ones that were apart of satomi's pack

theo: yeah...right....the hit and run. sorry if im not losing sleep over some random roadkill!

liam: THEY WERE MURDERED. BRETT AND LORI. THEY DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS.

and then liam punches the fuck out of him. literallt mean i heard something break he dropppppeddd to the fllooorrr. literally caught the wall and started sliding down it until he was on the floor lying down. effectivelt shutted him the fuck up.  and then liam steps over him and says "by the way im still working on my anger." and theo raises a hand as liam walks out the bathroom and says "good to know." <-hoarse and raspy. 

hope u know during the whollleee fight they were getting closer n closer to each other so like they literally went into the bathroom for a quickie argument to release the tension ig. now that i think about it theo probably dragged him in there bc hes the only one he trusts to talk to besides the fact liam gets so worked up around him sometimes. funny how he talks about not losing sleep over brett n lori but hes for sure losing sleep . my bad

The hunters were out of control, acting out of fear, taking innocent lives, all because they thought that it would ensure their safety. To their mortal dismay however, they did not acknowledge that there was something more intricate at play, twisting their wills, and bending them to its deadly whim.

But they didn’t know the first thing about supernatural species, in fact, you were a lot like them. You loved, and endured loss, the pain of such a thievery almost breaking your heart.

Liam felt guilty, from where he sat in class, watching you. He could sense you wanted to rip Gabe’s throat out for his loyalty to Monroe. He too had that desire, but upon Scott’s orders, and against his impulsive wishes, he remained silent, and tried to blend in.

But he was well aware, since that night, all eyes were on him, piercing him with their scared and revolted judgement. They had seen a truth that they had not been prepared for, and the idea of creatures that stalked and preyed under the moonlight, walking around in human skin, terrified all of them.

It was her fault that Lorrie and Brett were killed, she was going to pay. Your claws gouged the underneath of your desk, lightly picking away the wood with ease.

To say you were infuriated was understatement. Every possible emotion burdened you, and it made you feel utterly heart broke. Brett Talbot had been your first love, and whilst the two of you had eventually broken up, things ended pm good terms.

The image of his body, covered by Lori’s surrendered one haunted you. If you hadn’t tried to keep up with the chase, and not ended the new hunters, you’d mistake yourself for suffering from symptoms to poisoning too.

“He’s a monster.” The words met your ears, and that voice belonged to the murderer that you knew to be Gabe. “Dunbar is going to be next, we just need to expose him first.”

Your eyes rapidly fluttered around the room, inspecting every corner with your hyperactive sight. Liam was their new target, and it brought a burning wrench within your gut, one of which you tried to control.

For now, it was all talk. But that said, the humans would eventually take action to strike, and you’d be damned if you lost another loved one; especially Liam.

The lacrosse players exited the coach, carrying their tactical bags, as you absentmindedly trailed behind them, smiling up at Brett as he stood tall among the herd. Breathing in the fresh air, you reeled your mind blank for a moment, until you heard disruptive chatter, that sounded like it was going south.

Once you returned to your conscious senses, you saw your boyfriend talking down to a shorter boy, who wore an unimpressed expression. It was Liam Dunbar, the by that had moved to this school after his anger problems had gotten out of hand - literally.

Holding your head high, you walked over to the small group of players that had gathered,and were demeaning the blonde. Calling out Brett’s name he slowly turned towards you, his brow firmly raised. He hardly moved your intent for interrupting his latent and distressed discussion, and so you grabbed his elbow, pulling him away.

Before walking away with your long legged partner, you sent Liam a calm smile, only to end up dragging the werewolf towards the back of the bus, leaving Liam’s new friends in a state of relief. A cocky smile forged onto his face, as he trapped you against the weight carrying vehicle, leaning down so that his tender and luscious lips were fanning air upon your own.

“Did someone get all hot and bothered seeing me put Dunbar in his place?” He snickered, and whilst you usually adored his humour, now was not the time nor place for it predominant presence. At his usual self and words, you contained an infatuated grin, up keeping your stern expression towards him.

“You are here to play lacrosse, not tick off Liam.” You reminded him, swatting his face away as he tried to apologetically peck you. “No Brett, you can sense it too. The change practically reeks off him,he’s one of us.”

“It’s all fun and games.” He tried to reason, but you weren’t having it. And so you crossed your arms over the other upon your chest, harmlessly glaring up at him.

“When you’re n that position, it isn’t. It’s something you need experienced, you were born a wolf, a lot of us weren’t. And let me tell you, when the first first begins to make you into something else, it didn’t easy. So cut Liam some slack, would you? For me?”

A light scoff exited Brett’s mouth, but eventually, with the aid of your prone flowering, he gave in, tipping his head back, and groaning. “You bring out the best in me, and as much as i love t, at times it can be a pain in the ass.”

“Well,” you began, warmly squinting your eyes at the boy. “I’m your pain in the ass. And I’d say you have quite a nice ass.” You smirked.

“You always know what to say to pull me back.” He moved closer and this time you allowed him to close the space between you. In fact, you relished in it, falling deeper for the Devenford Prep student, with every word that the pair of you exchanged.

A deep breath caused you to falter your staring into nothingness. As you looked to the side, you noticed Liam knelt beside you, clasping your face. And that was when you realised that class must have been over, for the room was entirely empty.

“Hey, you good gorgeous?” Liam asked, cradling your jaw as though it would break under your touch. He was admittedly worried, you didn’t have the best record for controlling the inner animal. During class,he thought he may have needed to stop you from killing Gabe.

To everyone’s luck, that wasn’t necessary, and everyone was still alive... or, at least, almost everyone was. It would merely be a matter of time until Gerard got the war that he wanted, it clearly had already began.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” You mumbled, feeling comfort in the warmth of his hand. It was one of the few things that could bring you any kind of calm and steadiness in these dire times.

“How’d you stop yourself?” He also had troubles with control, the conflict of his inner nature and his inwards anger had never been friends. Slowly, you licked your lips, as you scrambled for the answer, unaware that it had been right in front of you all this time.

“Brett, he’s- or at least, the memory of him - is my anchor.” You tried to explain, a furrow on your face as the mere mention of the boy, and the thought of him alongside his dear sister set you into ample mourning. Instead of saying anything more, Liam pulled your head down to curl against his shoulder, him sharing your pan and loss.

I was listening to "Hold On" by Chord Overstreet while thinking of Liam/Brett/Lori and I think I might've died a little

I saw your post about Brett and I totally agree. Like I really like when he is alive on fics and he builds a friendship with Theo because Theo needs it but every time I think that I want a fic where Brett goddamn apologizes to Liam and they sit down and fucking talk about it and Brett realizes the trauma he has caused Liam. And I am not saying Liam should forgive him immediately but they do start slowly building a friendship. I want to see this from a fic I want to see this from the fandom.

Yes, absolutely, I could have not said it better!

I usually don't have anything against Brett-and-Lori-live-fics (even though I would also like to see more Boyd-and-Erica-live-fics or ones where Aiden and/or Allison are alive) bc it offers potential for interesting group dynamics within the puppy pack.

Still, you are absolutely right: the fact that I haven't read ONE fanfic where Liam and Brett talk their shit out and acknowledge the past ... is fascinating to say the least. Instead Brett's role about 90% of the time is solely to annoy the shit out of Liam and to hook up with Nolan?

This does not only tell the audience that being a dick on purpose is acceptable behavior in a friendship (at least that's what the relationship between Liam and Brett is supposed to be) and needs to be tolerated - which is a dam toxic approach on relationships in general.

But it also robs Brett's character of any kind of deeper personality traits (personal opinion here). We see interesting glimpses of his life here and there (his family apparently died in a fire and only he and Lori survived, he then worked his ass off to get into Devenford Prep AND got Lori in as well; also the fact that he most likely knew Tierney and Jiang was never adressed) and i would LOVE to read somebody's approach on Brett that goes further than just "oh, he is the asshole that mocks everyone and is sassy but also hot and he is a lacrosse champ so he's forgiven also let's ship him with this wannabe hunter he never had any scene with lol".

Also: the friendship with Theo. I don't get it?

Just cause both of them are snarky doesn't mean they are going to get along pretty well. At least from my personal experience, locking two confident, sassy guys in a room doesn't end with them bonding but more often with a fight.

Again, reducing Brett to his sass means I don't see any way Theo is actually going to like him and vice versa. Maybe I can see them having fun at pack meetings by teasing everyone else - but apart from that? This sounds harsh but: friendships (at least lasting ones) are build on knowing each other's characters and having the right dosage of similarities and differences in personality traits.

Yes, Theo needs a friend after 6B. I agree. And yes, Mason, Corey, Hayden or Liam are probably not the best choice due to their conflicted past.

Still: I've read better fics about Theo&Alec friendships despite the fact that we know literally nothing about Alec. Hell, there are even better fics about Theo and Nolan bonding - since they have stuff to bond about.

(Sorry for this super long rant but I just needed to get this off my chest. Also in no way I want to drag writers who write Brett&Theo friendships and / or their work.)

Anyways, here’s my answers to 7, 9 and 10 asked by @falling-for-boys

7) “share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.”

I have two, so bare with me as I explain; 

“They’re dead,” Mason said through the phone, voice heavy, and Hayden froze.

“Who?” She tried to settle her pounding heart, running through the list of names and replies that were in the pack group text she read over that morning. They’re all fine, she thought, everyone said they were fine.  

“Brett and Lori,” Mason said, and Hayden swallows, squeezing her eyes shut, pushing the shopping cart down the aisle. “They’re dead, Hayden.”

“Is he okay?” She asked, a little helpless. Hayden stopped when she got to the shelves of cereal, and stared blankly at the wall of boxes as she rested her phone in between the juncture of her neck and shoulder. She knew Liam and Brett were somewhat friends, at least in a reluctant way, and now he was alone, thrown into the wolves, or moreso, the wolf-hunters, in favour of her sister, in favour of herself.

“He will be,” Mason replied, and then they both stayed silent, listening to one another’s breathing, satisfied with the confirmation that Hayden knew now and that Mason was still alive.

I’ve recently been on both a pro-Hayden rampage and one of my favourite things to do is give her actual relationships with the other characters in the show outside of Liam. 

This whole fic was really just me indulging a personal headcannon where Hayden and Mason are the co-presidents of the ‘Liam-Dunbar-Protection-Squad’ because they both love him very much and just want him to be happy, even if it’s with Theo. 

Argent continues to tap his finger against his thigh, once, then twice, and Theo notices, absently, that it’s his trigger finger. “That leads me to wonder why.”

“Why?” Theo prompts, feigning nonchalance. But his insides are twisting, and he’s battling down the overwhelming urge to flee, because Argent knows something, and Theo hates being in the dark.

Argent smiles.

“Why have they had such a hard time forgiving you?”

Theo reels back in shock, head spinning, and he bites down hard, his mouth filling with copper, shuddering, hands spasming as he struggles to grasp some control. 

“But-” Argent continues, voice monotonous, reaching out a hand, wrapping his fingers around Theo’s wrist, the same wrist Liam had grabbed beforehand, squeezing tightly. He looks Theo in the eyes. “-I don’t think the problem is them, is it Theo?”

Theo opens his mouth, ready to argue; to say something, but Argent keeps going, keeps talking, his voice steady and unrelenting. Argent’s fingers arch, digging his nails into Theo’s skin.

“It’s not that they- no, we don’t trust you-”

Theo wants to interrupt, wants to run, wants to escape the inevitable, sucking in a sharp breath.

“-it’s that you don't trust us.”

Argent’s staring, and Theo’s never felt more exposed.

I will forever preach that both the McCall Pack would trust Theo before Theo would trust them, so using Argent to call Theo out on it was honestly so enjoyable to write. 

To be honest, Argent, Theo and Derek are just a trio of emotionally-stunted reformed killers that really would not be able to handle the ‘I-care-about-you-even-though-I-probably-shouldn’t’ attitude that Scott McCall and his pack of self-sacrificing idiots radiate. 

9) “which fic has been the hardest to write?” 

The answer is absolutely there’s a fate worse that death (and it exists in the eulogies of who you could have been.)

I started the drafting for that fic around the same time I finished Not Yet a Corpse, but never managed to actually write anything because I’d never even attempted extreme angst like that before. 

There’s a whole document dedicated to the outtakes for that fic (which includes a conversation with Mason and Stiles where Mason desperately tries to get advice on how to help Liam, like Stiles helped Scott after Allison, that I really wish I could’ve kept in the final product.) 

I also have a WIP that is so difficult to write, solely because it’s in Liam’s POV and I desperately want to give his struggle with IED and grief after Brett and Lori, some justice. 

10) “which fic has been the easiest to write?” 

The Parallel Lines series was by far one of the easiest for me to write, though I unpublished them for the sake of re-plotting and editing. 

There was something about writing Mason and Liam’s dynamic as Mason tried desperately to convince Liam that he could be with Theo, even if the pack disapproved, that was so fun and easy. 

Not Yet a Corpse is definitely a close second, but specifically the second and last chapter, because the contrast between Mason trying to prove that they weren’t going to leave Theo for dead vs, Theo learning that they wanted him around, just kind of flowed onto the page.

A Pattern of Violent Behavior

I have to admit that I might tend to overreact to fandom nonsense, but it costs me nothing except time and the tediousness of anti-Scotts who approach MAGA levels of malicious memory loss.  One of the drawbacks of my inability to let things go is that sometimes a particular post gets stuck in my head, and it remains there until I exorcise the demons.  This post has reply from a commentator that I can’t get out of my head.

I’ve already dealt with the idea that Scott is not a hypocrite for having the unfilled and unpursued desire to kill Peter in Season 1.  I’ve dealt numerous times with the idea that Scott failed to kill Gerard, most recently by pointing out that, while dangerous, neither Scott nor any other character regarded it as a failed assassination attempt.   That leaves only the argument “managed to get massive amounts of people killed through my unwillingness to kill actual villains.”

Unfortunately, I have to agree.  Scott didn’t let Derek Hale die and everyone suffered for it.  He had the chance:

Stiles: You know, you probably lost it when you two were fighting. You remember that, when he was trying to kill you, after you interrupted him trying to kill Jackson? Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behavior here? 

Scott: He wasn't going to kill anyone. And I'm not letting him die. 

Stiles: Could you at least think about letting him die? For me? What?

If only Scott had listened to Stiles!  Since Stiles is always right, his best friend should have recognized that it’s for everyone’s best interest that Derek Hale die at the hands of the Argents.  Imagine how many people’s lives would have been saved!

Jackson would not have bitten, so Coach Lahey, Bennet, Tucker, Sean, Jessica, Kara, four deputies, and Matt would not have died.  Body count: 11

The Alpha Pack would not have come for Scott and/or Derek, which means that the Darach wouldn’t have made an appearance either.  So none of the twelve sacrifices, that unfortunate Ambulance driver, Ennis, Kali, Erica, Boyd, and Jennifer herself wouldn’t have died.   Body Count: 18

With no Alpha Pack/Darach War, the drowning ritual would not have been completed and Stiles wouldn’t have been possessed by the nogitsune.  That means Katashi and his men would still be alive, those two people electrocuted at the hospital, at least one dead deputy dying due to the bomb, the two deputies dying at the police station, and the minimum of four people dying at the hospital, Allison and Aiden.  Body count: 16+

And since Allison didn’t die, Meredith wouldn’t have started the Dead Pool.  That means the Walcotts, DiMarco, Carrie Hutchinson, the ten members of Satomi’s pack, Brunski, the six-plus rogue hunters, the nameless female hospital assassin, the six-plus Cavalveras, and two Berserkers wouldn’t have died.  Body Count: 32+

According to Valack, the Dread Doctors only returned when Scott, Stiles, and Allison reignited the Nemeton, so we can put the nine permanently dead chimeras, the twenty-three dead found in the tunnels, the dozen plus found in the school bus trap, at least one dead teacher, the Dread Doctors themselves, and Sebastian Valet, again.   Body count: 49+

All that because Scott wouldn’t let Derek die.  Tsk, tsk, tsk, Shame on you, Scott.  Shame on you.

I think even the most sarcasm-challenged of my audience can get the point of this little exercise.  If, as the commentator argued, Scott was in the wrong for not executing anyone who could be a threat, then he was wrong for not letting Derek Hale die immediately after Scott stopped him from murdering Jackson in Co-Captain (1x10) and only a little bit after Derek betrayed Scott to Peter, regardless of Derek’s oh-so-tragic-backstory, intent to do good, or possibility of growth.  We could easily do the same type of calculus for Peter, Stiles, and Theo.  

The only possible counter they have is that things could have gotten worse if Derek was dead.  Leaving aside the fact that Derek was essentially useless in stopping Peter, I’m sure that Scott, Stiles, and the Argents could have figured out a way to stop the evil alpha. Hell, with Scott as a normal alpha, the Alpha Pack has even less reason to come.  What about Scott being an unstable omega?  Scott was an omega for eight months with no sign of instability.  What about Deucalion?  Deucalion didn’t kill anyone after Scott and Derek let him go.   What if Scott had murdered Theo on Stiles’s say-so -- then Lydia, Malia, Stiles, Liam and Hayden would be dead.

Scott recognizes that not only does he not have the ability to tell the future, he doesn’t have the right to try.   He stops characters trying to kill other characters, but he doesn’t base that on what they might do or what they have done, but what they are doing.   

Though the bottom line is, people like the commentator wanted Scott to get out of the way of the Hales murdering Jackson and the Argents.  They wanted him to execute the characters they didn’t like -- like Gerard, Deucalion, Jennifer, etc, but they didn’t want him to execute the characters they did like -- such as Derek, Peter, Theo, etc.  There’s no hypocrisy in Scott’s  moral stance, and no one injudiciousness.

I can’t help but wonder if the real world wouldn’t be better off if we all agreed that everyone has a right to life regardless of whether we liked them or not.

in honor of pride ending [I swear june literally flies by every year] let’s all sit back and imagine Liam at his first pride with the puppy pack. maybe he’s gone to pride before in support of Mason but this year he’s going for himself 😌. no but I can imagine the puppy pack making a pack day out of pride and it just being so fun [puppy pack are the kind of people you just want to be around 24/7 bc they are the funniest and somehow chaotic group of friends].

brett [YES HES ALIVE AND THRIVING], who I headcannon as pan just going all out and not giving a fuck, but it wouldn’t be overly tacky [he would still manage to look good ] he would have two small pan flags on his cheeks and a little eyeliner and him and nolan might coordiante (just a little 🤏🏾) also Nolan and Brett are boyfriends.

Alec is new to the group and he might still be questioning or just be an ally (the show didn’t give him enough screen time and a personality for me to actually think about him) Lori, I headcannon as a lesbian and she and Theo are honestly there to make sure puppy pack doesn’t go to far off the rails [and by puppy pack i mean Brett and Liam lmaooo]

Liam being invited up on a float and being so shy and awkward at first bc uhhh mason what am i supposed to do ?!? Theo is very much there to be with his boyfriend, Liam and being underground and plotting with the dread doctors he most likely hasn’t been to Pride so this is a first for him too. all in all it’s a successful day with lori and nolan only having to chase after brett once to stop him from trying to convince someone why he should be the head of their float
